Get a taste of the spectacular volcanic landscapes and mesmerizing wildlife of the Galapagos Islands during this land-based adventure. Go hiking through pahoehoe lava flows to the crater of Sierra Negra volcano, swim alongside friendly sea lions at La Loberia, get up close to Galapagos giant tortoises at the Charles Darwin Research Center and spot Galapagos penguins and frigatebirds while kayaking along the coast.
Offering a shorter alternative to our award-winning Galapagos Unbound adventure, this lodge-to-lodge vacation covers three different islands across six days. Rather than trying to rush through the entire archipelago to discover its incredible wildlife and geological sites, we’ve designed a trip that offers an immersive experience in three of the most fascinating islands - Isabela, San Cristobal and Santa Cruz.
Explore the vibrant hubs of Puerto Ayora and Puerto Villamil to discover the archipelago’s human history. Then bunk down each night in locally-owned lodges to experience the Galapagos culture and hospitality first hand while supporting sustainable travel and tourism in the archipelago. Experience everything that Isabela, San Cristobal and Santa Cruz have to offer while being accompanied by our highly-experienced local guides who will share their unique insights on this fascinating destination.
If you are looking for an even more flexible Galapagos Island Vacation we can still offer 2 Island tours that depart any day. These can be 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 days long.

Itinerary
Day 1
Island Arrival, Santa Cruz Giant Tortoises, and Lava Tunnel Exploration
Today, you arrive in Santa Cruz, specifically to Baltra Island, home to the airport. Your guide meets you, and your adventure starts immediately! It’s a bus-ferry-taxi ride from the airport to Puerto Ayora, located on a nearby island.
After check-in, you walk to Tortuga Bay, often ranked among the best beaches in South America. The path leads you to soft white sand and inviting waves. Tortuga Bay is accessible only by foot, offering you plenty of options to swim, sunbathe, or bodysurf. As you walk along the 45-minute trail, you may spot lava lizards and birds in the surrounding trees.
Upon reaching the beach, you’re greeted with perfect surf. Further along, you can reach the calm Tortuga Bay, sheltered by mangroves and ideal for swimming. You might even see baby sharks here! The area also features a walk through a cactus forest, where you may spot nesting blue-footed boobies or large marine iguanas.
You’re free to return to town whenever you like. Explore Puerto Ayora, the largest town in the Galapagos Islands, where you’ll find a bustling port city and the Galapagos’ tourist hub. In the evening, your guide takes you to Calle de los Kioskos (Kiosks Street), where small stall restaurants set up tables for open-air dining. This is where locals gather to eat!

Day 2
Tortuga Bay Exploration and Charles Darwin Research Station Visit
This morning, you have the option to visit the Charles Darwin Research Station. Here, we learn about the successful conservation efforts that have repopulated the islands with endangered land iguanas and giant tortoises. You observe how the tortoises are raised, from egg collection to their release into the wild and see Lonesome George, the famous Galapagos tortoise who passed away in 2012.
If you prefer not to visit the research station, Puerto Ayora offers many other sights, including the local fish market, a fascinating insight into Galapagos life.
In the afternoon, we head to the highlands for a visit to a private giant tortoise reserve. Watch these massive creatures in their natural habitat as they cool off in watering holes or munch on greens and explore nearby lava tunnels to learn about the natural forces that formed the islands.
After lunch in the highlands, you board a boat to Isabela Island, the largest island in the archipelago. Upon arrival, we check in and take a stroll through Puerto Villamil, a picturesque town and find the perfect spot to enjoy our first Isabela sunset, often considered the most beautiful in the Galapagos.
Optional Activity: If you're interested in surfing or boogie boarding at Tortuga Bay, let your guide know in advance.

Sierra Negra Volcano Hike and Bay Kayaking Adventure
Begin the day with an exhilarating hike to Sierra Negra, one of the most active volcanoes in the Galápagos Islands. As we ascend, marvel at the vast volcanic landscape, and keep an eye out for the bright Vermillion flycatcher or the elusive short-eared owl. Upon reaching the rim of the massive 9-kilometer-wide caldera, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the island’s rugged terrain.
After our hike, we return to Puerto Villamil to enjoy a well-earned lunch. In the afternoon, we set out on a peaceful kayaking excursion around the bay. Paddle through calm waters, and maybe spot playful sea lions, graceful rays, and sea turtles gliding beneath the surface. Along the rocky shores, look for iconic Galápagos penguins, blue-footed boobies, pelicans, and frigate birds.
The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. Discover Tintoreras, Snorkeling Wonders, and a Scenic San Cristóbal Highlands Bike Ride
Start your day with an unforgettable trip to Tintoreras, an islet formed by volcanic activity and home to fascinating wildlife. A short boat ride from Puerto Villamil takes you to this rugged paradise, where you’ll walk along lava trails and spot marine iguanas basking in the sun. The calm, clear waters surrounding the islet are perfect for snorkeling, offering a chance to encounter playful sea lions, vibrant fish, and, if luck is on your side, white-tipped reef sharks resting in their natural habitat.
After your snorkeling excursion, hop on an early flight to San Cristóbal, the oldest island in the Galápagos archipelago. Once there, head into the lush highlands for a thrilling downhill bike ride. Beginning at La Soledad, a viewpoint with sweeping vistas, cycle through the quaint village of El Progreso and traverse diverse vegetation zones before arriving at La Loberia. This serene beach is a favorite hangout for sea lions, where you can watch them lounging on the sand or splashing in the waves. As we sail toward the site, watch for blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and other native species.
Upon arrival, snorkel through the narrow channel formed by the two imposing rocks and encounter the incredible marine life that flourishes here. Reviews
Not your typical trip to the islands!
If you want an adventure trip in the Galapagos Island, this is your company. The camping, kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, keep you busy while enjoying the beauty of this special place. The guide and the naturalists are wonderful. Not your typical trip to the islands!
Row Adventures to the Galapogos Islands - a perfect title!
Have you always wanted to visit the Galapagos Islands? Is this on your 'bucket list'? Nadine and I answered, "Yes!" "Yes!" So we looked for the best tour. After some searching on Google (like you) we found dozens of companies. So we checked references and contacted friends. This narrowed the list to a few. Then we reviewed Row Adventures along with 3 or 4 other options. That narrowed the list to 2. We contacted both companies to see how they responded. We also double-checked the reviews on a number of sites. (Some reviews are bogus, from competitors) This took some time, because it was a big investment of time and money. We decided Row Adventures was the best choice. But we had never booked a trip with Row before, so we were still a bit concerned. Would this be the Galapagos trip we dreamed of? The answer: a resounding,"YES!" It is difficult to describe how wonderful our Galapagos trip turned out. Here is one hint; our guide was nominated as one of the Top 10 guides in the world in Adventure magazine. And he was! We submitted a "High Five" recommendation to Adventure magazine. And it wasn't just one person; he was an example of the great Row team in the Galapagos. Everything was amazing and perfect. From skin diving at Kicker Rock (while a few went scuba diving) to the Darwin Center to Floriana Island -- where Orcas followed our boat into the harbor, with beautiful skin diving. (A less frequently visited island,) Everything was as magical as we imagined it might be, before we arrived. Here is a deal-sealer: When we were at Kicker Rock, some of the people in our group were scuba divers -- but my wife Nadine was not experienced with the ocean. The Row guides are very kind and helpful. They guided her slowly into the water and turned this into a great adventure. As a result, Nadine enjoyed skin diving at Floriana Island and Isabella, and saw sea turtles sleeping on the sand underwater. This is a perfect example of the importance of a great team. "But for" their help, we would have missed so much. If you are considering a 'Trip to the Galapagos' as we did, put 'Row Adventures' at the top of your list. Fantastic family vacation
Traveling with Row Adventures was the perfect way to see the natural wonders of the Galapagos with two teenagers! We loved the variety of activities including kayaking, snorkeling, and nature hikes, all with the benefit of a fantastic naturalist. We had just the right mix of organized activities and downtime to explore the three islands we visited. The Galapagos exceeded our expectations in terms of wildlife that we could see up close, varied activities. fascinating history and delicious meals. This was our second family trip with Row Adventures - so grateful how they put this fantastic itinerary together.
