Join ROW Adventures for a BIPOC community and affinity rafting trip!
As a company, we are constantly striving to recreate responsibly and respectfully in the incredible environments we operate in. A part of that is acknowledging the limitations that the current outdoor culture has in creating inclusive and equitable spaces. While we are still learning about the many barriers that the BIPOC community faces when entering the outdoor community, we want to start to do our part in reducing the negative impact these have on individuals in the small ways we can.
We want this affinity trip to create a safe space among like-minded participants to experience the outdoors free from the burden of also feeling like you need to be accepted by the outdoor community. We are aware that the dominantly white outdoor culture can create pressure for BIPOC communities to assimilate to fit in which in turn, drowns out unique and valuable perspectives. Every culture has its own distinctive relationship to the outdoors, and each of these should be fostered and valued regardless of who holds more privilege and means to access these spaces.
As a company that primarily operates in these magnificent landscapes, we also take the preservation of the environment very seriously. We realize that environmental activism cannot function effectively without understanding the impact of intersectional environmentalism. BIPOC communities are already creating a huge impact in conservation efforts and this will only grow with the creation of more platforms for these voices. We hope to foster a mutualism in outdoor spaces where we can all learn and grow from each other together to create a more sustainable future.
Rivers can nurture such a magical environment of adventure, growth, and awareness, and we want to do our part to reciprocate this. We hope to see you downriver and share these experiences with you!
This trip is for any and all self-identifying Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and their families. We hope that by experiencing the beauty and excitement of a multi-day rafting trip allows you to forge connections and create friendships in a safe space. Join our expert guides and embark down the splashy and playful Salmon River Canyons for 5 days of laughter, thrills, camaraderie, and delicious food.
Rafting the Salmon River Canyons
The Salmon River Canyons is the ultimate introduction to multi-day rafting. A combination of warm water, beginner and intermediate rapids that are fun for all, and cozy camping on white sand beaches that rival Florida's finest. We navigate down an oasis tucked in a desert landscape, meaning warm daytime temperatures, minimal chances of rain, and no mosquitos!
Between rapids we enjoy long stretches of smooth river allowing you to enjoy the canyon walls and keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife such as Bald Eagles, Mule Deer, and Big Horn Sheep. These calmer stretches provide opportunities to jump out of the raft and float down the river, buoyed by your Personal Flotation Device (PFD). On a warm day, you may even chance a water fight with another raft.
Along the river, we will stop and view historic sites such as pioneer homesteads, Chinese Rock houses left from miners of days past, and Native American rock art. This provides a chance to discuss the long and storied history of these river canyons and the people who inhabited them and continue to use them today.
At camp, you can relax in our riverside dining room, complete with tables and chairs, and play a game with friends. Afternoons provide a great chance to swim or simply lounge at the river's edge. For those who crave activity, the beaches are perfect places for a game of volleyball, or tossing a frisbee or football.
In the meantime, your guides are working on preparing delicious camp cooked meals such as Lasagna, or Chicken Fajitas. Everyone gathers for dinner and reflects on the fun that has been had and is yet to come. Evenings bring a campfire and beautiful starlit skies. Retire to your riverside tent, and rest up to do it all again the next day!
