Description

The focus of this particular position is as an Adventure Consultant for our Sea Kayak Adventures and ROW Adventures trips.

Adventure Consultants skillfully utilize their passion and love for the outdoors and travel, critical listening, and product knowledge to fit each guest into the appropriate vacation. Your enthusiasm to convert inquiries into reservations helps us grow in the active travel market. As well, this position will ensure each guest’s needs, including transportation, accommodations, payments, and other special travel services are carefully planned and executed. You genuinely care about the experience of each guest and the goal of meeting their vacation dreams. You have the patience to answer questions, be diplomatic, and keep a positive outlook. Your goal is to guide guests to a trip best suited to their needs and desires which requires constant learning and study to grasp the depth of our 100+ itineraries around the world. 

This is a full-time, year-round position based at the main office in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. As an Adventure Consultant, this position involves a wide range of tasks, including having firsthand knowledge of our destinations and logistics for a variety of outdoor trips including rafting, sea kayaking, biking, hiking, and more. Product knowledge derived from first-hand knowledge requires travel to one of our destinations or participation in our rafting and kayak trips as well as participating in occasional trade shows. This position does require you to be available by phone on weekends and evenings, during our busy season, for guest/logistical emergencies.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate is a highly organized and task-oriented self-starter who possesses a commitment to excellence. Strong written and verbal communication skills, a background in customer service, excellent human relations skills, and a passion for adventure travel. A minimum of two years of travel industry experience or, bachelor’s degree (or comparable), strong computer skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, etc.) required.

Duties:

Sales

  • Communicate and sell active-travel trips via incoming & outgoing phone calls, live chat, etc. by established guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively via all modes (email, chat, calls) in accordance with established guidelines. 
  • Confers with guests to determine the destination, appropriate travel dates, transportation details, and financial considerations.
  • Customizes individual reservations to accommodate special needs.
  • Imparts information on area-specific travel such as geographic features, accommodations, restaurants, special events, and points of interest.
  • Liaise with guests and operations, including guides, support staff, area managers, vendors/affiliates, and management to ensure guest’s needs are met.

Administration

  • Complete and follow through with established sales systems to potential guests.
  • Become proficient in using ROW computer systems including our custom reservation/CRM software ROAM, word processing, spreadsheet, excel, and database functions.
  • Complete knowledge of the trip reservation system, including all documentation, billing, and follow-up.
  • Provides guests with complete reservation package including pre- and post-trip details.
  • Advises on weather conditions and necessary wardrobe.
  • Must complete pre-departure information to our operations team which may include a Team Leader (TL) package including a detailed roster and information on each guest.
  • Overall supervision and responsibility for creating and maintaining relationships with hotels, taxis, and other vendors including detailed information and payments. 
  • Establish new relations with vendors as appropriate.
  • Review all reservations prior to travel.
  • Reviews all trip information returned from the field and addresses issues from guests and guides alike. 
  • Have a working knowledge of all office machines.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: Starting at $40,000 to $44,000 
  • Employment Term: Full time
  • Schedule: Generally M-F, 8 am-5 pm PST with some nights and weekends required

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This position is primarily in a clerical, office setting and this role routinely uses standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers and telephones, and may occasionally travel 1-2x a year on ROW/Adventure Unbound trips, retreats and/or training. Elements of the job duties may also require occasional operation of a motor vehicle.
