Getaway Cabins in Idaho at River Dance Lodge

After a challenging year spent attached to our screens (from endless Zoom calls to online schooling), there’s never been a better time to escape with the family and immerse yourself in our natural world. A getaway cabin is designed for just that - valuable time spent together away from the stresses of daily life and an opportunity to disconnect from our cellphones, computers, and TVs.

Imagine long days spent hiking, fishing and rafting in the great outdoors before evenings of family connection during board games or while playing cards. You can gaze up at a brilliant starry night sky from the comfort of your private hot tub before falling asleep in a state of blissful weariness, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

At the River Dance Lodge, you can do all of that and more, with the magnificent Clearwater River as your backdrop. Discover the rugged trails and forested mountains of Idaho from the comfort of your rustic log cabin or enjoy your first experience “glamping” in one of their luxury tents.

Owned and operated by Betsy Bowen and Peter Grubb (who also run ROW Adventures), the River Dance Lodge was designed as a home base for outdoor pursuits. From day one, it’s been committed to environmental sustainability and is run according to the “Three R’s” - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. It is an active supporter of river conservation throughout the United States and is committed to inspiring people to reconnect with our natural world.

When you book a getaway cabin at the River Dance Lodge, you can bunk down in one of their eight luxuriously designed log cabins, which are hand-crafted from high-quality, dead-standing lodgepole pines. Each is equipped with a kitchen and a three-burner gas grill on the porch, as well as tiled bathrooms and private hot tubs where you can wind down at the end of the day. Relax beside the fireplace with a good book on chilly evenings or kick back on the deck in the summer months while listening to the Clearwater River flowing by.

The River Dance Lodge also boasts three “glamping” tents, which are ideal for couples or families who like the idea of camping but aren’t ready to give up their creature comforts. They are beautifully furnished with king or twin beds and are well-equipped with a table, chairs, and a wood stove. On the back porch, you’ll find an antique clawfoot bathtub where you can enjoy long soaks, and environmentally friendly self-composting toilets are just a short stroll away. Meals can be prepared on the three-burner gas stove or you can take advantage of the charcoal grills and fire ring in the communal picnic area.

Your Home Base for Adventure

When it comes to adventure, the River Dance Lodge offers no shortage of it, whether you’re into fly fishing, mountain biking, or horseback riding. Your getaway cabin is on the doorstep of three Wild & Scenic Rivers - the Lochsa, Selway, and Clearwater - all of which offer thrilling whitewater rafting for all experience levels. ROW Adventures runs guided day and multi-day trips from the River Dance Lodge, including trips that are ideal for families.

Those who are new to whitewater kayaking can paddle the leisurely waters of the Middle Fork Clearwater or the Lower Selway while advanced paddlers can tackle the thunderous Lochsa River. If you want to learn to fly fish, guided instruction is offered at River Dance Lodge, including advice on how to cast and read the water. Then, it’s time to venture out onto the Clearwater River aboard a raft that’s equipped with a specialized fishing frame.

Mountain bikers and hikers are on the doorstep of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, with miles of trails to explore in this protected Idaho landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for moose, elk, and black bears while exploring its scenic meadows and relax beside the picturesque cascades of Selway Falls. History buffs who are interested in the expedition of Lewis and Clark can easily access the Lolo Trail, which is dotted with several sites that were recorded in their journals.

If you can’t decide what to do, the River Dance Lodge offers multi-day summer packages that enable you to explore everything this gorgeous region has to offer. Each day, you can select a different activity that suits your family’s interests and experience levels.

Prefer to do your own thing? The getaway cabins and “glamping” tents at the River Dance Lodge can also be booked as independent accommodation for guests who want to explore the region themselves.

Delicious picnic lunches are provided while you’re out in the wilderness while breakfast baskets can be delivered to your getaway cabin each morning. Alternatively, for those who book the all-inclusive package, you can enjoy the breakfast buffet that’s provided at the Syringa Cafe, which is where dinners are also served. The menu features locally caught wild salmon, hearty steaks, and lasagnas, with vegetarians also well catered for. A small selection of cooking items are available at the cafe for those who are self catering or the nearest grocery store is around 15 miles away.
