This unique 10-day itinerary combines a visit to the city of Cape Town with visits to two little-known corners of Southern Africa that boast few tourists and a rich tapestry of wildlife. Beginning in Cape Town, we enjoy the city’s seamless ability to blend natural rawness and cosmopolitan creature comforts before heading out to the surrounding area. The city’s backdrop is a stunning sweep of mountainous heights, impressive cliffs, and a stretch of plateau known as Table Mountain. We hike the to the top of Table Mountain, where we get to experience what’s been described as one of the most epic views in Africa.
We also explore the rugged coast, kayaking to see a unique colony of African Penguins that exist only along the south-western coast of Africa, living in colonies on 24 islands between Namibia and Southern Africa. It is the only penguin species that breeds in Africa.
From Cape Town, we fly north and enter the rarely visited Limpopo Province and the Leshiba Wilderness. With luck, we’ll see zebras, rhinos, giraffes, and other extraordinary wildlife. We also visit the village of the Venda people, where we are enlightened by the history, culture, and art of the Venda people. A walking safari allows adequate time to soak in the vibrant vistas of the region.
We travel further north, crossing the border into the extreme southeast of Botswana where few tourists go, but where we have found one of the most rewarding game viewing areas in the region led by superb guides. This safari includes not only viewing from vehicles but a special biking or hiking option.
The trip ends in Johannesburg, but we encourage you to continue your once in a lifetime experience in Africa with a 4-day trip extension to Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls!
