The whole story sounds like an imaginary fable only conceived in a young, vibrant mind.

Let's stop dreaming! A Peru family vacation is exactly what your family yearns for. A fable no more, this forgotten world will come to life and you will create family memories etched in your mind for eternity.

Itinerary

Peru Family Vacation - Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Lima, Peru

You Peru family vacations begins with arrival in Lima, Transfer to the hotel located by the airport. Depending on the time of your arrival, explore Lima or simply rest at the hotel. Overnight in Lima. Meals not included

Day 2 - Lima to Cuzco to the Sacred Valley

Family will jump on an early morning flight to Cuzco, and then transfer immediately to the Sacred Valley. Your first stop after about 45 minutes will be at a weaving cooperative where locals create beautiful woven items and you have a chance to see and pet adult and baby llamas, alpacas and vicunas. Continue another 30-40 minutes from here on to the village of Pisac for lunch and a visit to the market. After lunch, it’s a very short drive to the Inca ruins of Pisac. These ruins remain somewhat mysterious as to what their absolute purpose was, but it seems likely that they were part of a settlement along a vital Inca road. With the Amazon rain forest to the east of the mountains, it is generally understood that Pisac provided a connecting point of sorts between the highlands and the jungle. The Pisac ruins are relatively large, and they remain in pretty good shape all things considered with extensive terracing set among patterned fields. Steps and aqueducts carved from stone round out the complex, and the surviving Sun Temple is the most impressive structure. As your family explores the Pisac ruins, you will find that the views of the mountains and valleys are beautiful. We transfer to our overnight accommodations. B,L,D.

Day 3 – Sacred Valley – Moray and Maras Salt Pans

Head uphill to the ruins of Moray at about 11,000 above sea level and learn about its unique circular terraces and the history of agriculture in the region. It looks almost extra-terrestrial and there’s an ancient Inca path that leads you into the hole. If you want we can then bike the family to the Salt Pans of Maras, or drive there and then hike from there to the valley floor. B,L,D.

Day 4 – June 12: Visit Ollantaytambo

Relax in the morning and after lunch we visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo, a very impressive ruin your absolutely love on your Peru family vacation. B,L,D.

Day 5 – Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Taking an early morning train, depart after 45 minutes to start the one-day hike on the Inca Trail. This is highly recommended and you enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate if you do it this way. The hike is about five miles and around 1500' vertical or more, and takes around four hours. The views are great and we see some waterfalls along the way. Near the end we reach the well preserved remains of Wiñay Wayna (9000’ altitude). After a picnic lunch we continue the vacation to Inti Punku, the Inca gate of the sun, we get our first sight of Machu Picchu. We finally cross the ridge that leads to our destination, and the full grandeur of the greatest archaeological discovery of modern times is revealed. After a view of Machu Picchu we will return to a hotel in Aguas Calientes. B,L.

Day 6 – Machu Picchu and return to Cuzco

Take the bus from Agua Calientes on your own to the ruins and enjoy the day exploring the site at your family's own pace. Eat lunch at the buffet restaurant then take the bus back to Agua Calientes, then board the train for Cuzco, arriving early evening. B,L

Day 7 – Cuzco (Free time to explore the town on your own.)

Day 8 – Cuzco

Enjoy a lovely city tour and nearby ruins tour of Cusco. Starting with a tour through the ancient streets of Cusco, your family will visit along the way the main sites and monuments of this old city, such as the main square, the Cathedral built over the ruins of the Suntur Wasi temple, the Koricancha temple which used to be the main temple during the Inca Empire, Then we will continue our tour and visit on the way Sacsayhuamán, located 2 km outside Cusco, 10 minute by road. A vast Inca Fortress built in three platforms; this was an important religious center and is a gateway to the Urubamba Valley and Machu Picchu. Then we move the family to Kenko, located 3 kms outside Cusco and 15 minutes by road. A site of worship, the center piece of Kenko is the enormous, 20 foot high rock carved into the shape of a Puma which dominates a series of canals and passageways painted with animals. B,L.
