Description:  This is a full-time, salaried, seasonal position is based out of Salmon, Idaho. The workweek is based on an 8-day river launch schedule so work days vary each week but are on a set and predictable schedule.  Five days of work are expected within each cycle.  Work hours are erratic, based on the flow of trip preparation and other logistical constraints.

Duties – (Not arranged by order of importance)

  1. To operate the Salmon Operation in a manner consistent with all ROW operations and established protocol and procedures.
  2. Serve as the main liaison with the ROW office and Operations Manager when Middle Fork Manager is on the water.  Communicate, distribute and post, as needed, rosters, schedules, special guest needs, etc and make sure that the appropriate people see them.  Assist in equipment transfers, shipping or receiving of retail items, etc.
  3. Maintain a professional relationship with and act as the official ROW liaison with suppliers and local vendors including hotels used by our guests. 
  4. Responsible for repair and maintenance of raft trip related equipment as assigned by the Middle Fork Manager.
  5. Responsible for the adherence of all posted rules regarding the living space.
  6. Responsible for monitoring completion of all duty lists posted at the warehouse.
  7. Responsible for keeping ROW retail items organized and inventoried.  Develop a weekly check list/inventory form that tracks inventory both in Salmon and in Stanley.  Restock Stanley retail boxes as needed.  Complete an end-of-season inventory in conjunction with directions from Noreen.
  8. Maintain and balance a local checking account.  Mail all receipts, accounting, etc. as directed by ROW’s bookkeeper.
  9. Responsible for operating within budget, or lacking a budget, operating as economically and efficiently as possible, in conjunction with the Middle Fork River Manager.
  10. Responsible for reporting any and all vehicle damage immediately to the Middle Fork Manager or the Operations Manager if the MF Manager is on the river.

Outpost maintenance duties

  1. Maintenance of the facility and grounds including mowing the lawn as needed, keeping guide cars off the front lawn areas, watering  lawn and plants, etc.
  2. Develop and maintain a recycling program based on local possibilities.
  3. Responsible for maintaining a clean, efficient work/living space.

Trip-related Duties:

  1. Understand and orchestrate trip logistics.
  2. Work with TL's and guides to meet equipment and logistical needs and problem-solve as appropriate.
  3. Shop and pack trip food for each trip.  During periods of low water coordinate the fly in of additional food drops with the local air taxi companies and pack food accordingly.
  4. Make sure laundry (sleeping bags, pillow cases, flannel liners, dish towels, etc.) has been done and collected 
  5. Be available to assist with trip pack-up and de-rig.
  6. Responsible for repairing any damaged equipment as assigned by the Middle Fork Manager.
  7. Responsible for proper organization of warehouse.
  8. Oversight of the ROW retail store including packing of post-trip sales boxes, ensuring they are organized and presentable.  (Actual sales and resulting paperwork is handled by the respective trip leader.)
  9. Moral support for trip leaders and guides.
  10. Make air taxi reservations for cargo and guides as needed during low water trips.
  11. Other duties as needed.

Retail Management Related Duties:

  1. Responsible for receiving and management of retail souvenir items, as well as shipping of items to other outposts if requested. 
  2. Responsible for keeping ROW retail items organized and inventoried. 
  3. Do comprehensive start of season inventory.
  4. Develop a weekly check list/inventory form that tracks inventory. 
  5. Stock, restock and take inventory of  “mobile retail boxes”
  6. Complete an end-of-season inventory in conjunction with directions from Noreen.

Transportation Related Duties

  1. This position offers the opportunity to drive either the put-in or take-out shuttle, or both with corresponding pay.
  2. If not driving shuttles, recruit, screen and hire drivers.  Supervise and schedule drivers.
  3. Responsible for repair and maintenance of vehicles and trailers.
  4. Responsible for keeping all company vehicles clean.
  5. Respond to emergency calls from ROW vehicles that have broken down in transit and need assistance or replacement vehicles for equipment or guests.  Problem-solve with the guides or the driver until a viable solution is reached, including delivering another vehicle to the break-down site.
  6. During the designated work shift, be available by phone when buses (trips) are on the road so that in the event of an emergency, logistical support can be provided to guides and drivers.  If planning on being away from phone contact more than 24 hours, communicate this clearly with the Operations Manager and company President.
  7. Identify needs in terms of vehicles, trailers and drivers and communicate these to the Operations Manager
