Grand Slam
During the months on June, September, and October enjoy astonishing fly fishing on Idaho’s St. Joe and Montana’s famous Clark Fork Rivers. Both of these are very productive rivers, and each offers distinctly different characteristics. While fishing these rivers you will have a shot at achieving a grand slam of trout fishing by catching all three western trout species, the Cutthroat, Rainbow, and Brown Trout. How many fish can we expect to catch and what is the average size?
Coeur d’Alene River:
The Coeur d’Alene River boasts excellent numbers of native cutthroat trout. Some of our finest days on the water have resulted in each of our guests landing 40 wild cutthroat. Active and productive fishing is the norm and you should expect to catch between 15 and 30 fish on most days. This gorgeous freestone stream offers fly fishermen an all encompassing experience that combines excellent fishing with breathtaking scenery and a true wilderness adventure.
The average size of fish caught on the Coeur d’Alene is around 15”. Fish generally range anywhere from 8” to 22” with most caught being in the 11” to 17” size group. These brilliantly colored fighters are aggressive and love to keep your rod bent all day.
St. Joe River:
The St. Joe River boasts colossal numbers of native cutthroat trout. Some of our finest days on the water have resulted in each of our guests landing 50 wild cutthroat. Active and productive fishing is the norm and you should expect to catch between 20 and 30 fish on most days. This gorgeous freestone stream offers fly fishermen an all encompassing experience that combines excellent fishing with breathtaking scenery and a true wilderness adventure.
The average size of fish caught on the St. Joe is around 16”. Fish generally range anywhere from 8” to 22” with most caught being in the 12” to 18” size group. These brilliantly colored fighters are aggressive and love to keep your rod bent all day.
What are typical meals on the river?
Our guides will provide you with an exceptional riverside lunch. Gourmet sandwiches, cheeses, fruit, chips and drinks are always on the menu. If you have any special dietary issues, we will customize your meal so that your river experience is all it should be. We can also customize your meal if you have an idea for that perfect riverside lunch.
What do we need to bring?
All of your fishing gear and equipment is supplied. We bring rods, reels, waders, flies and tippets, etc. We also provide lunch, drinks, and snacks throughout the day. Our guest’s are welcome to bring their own equipment if they so choose. Weather dependant, guests should dress accordingly. As the weather in Idaho can change quickly, we encourage all of our guests to pack rain gear for their trip.
Can novice anglers have fun on one of your trips?
The answer is, most definitely, yes they can. All of our guides are excellent fly fishing instructors and patient mentors. Throughout the course of your trip, you will be introduced to the world of fly fishing and will leave with a solid base of fly fishing knowledge. Even as a novice angler you should have plenty of opportunities to catch fish. Remember, while the fishing is excellent, the combined experience of the day never disappoints.
