Beer Rafting Trip - Rogue River Itinerary
DAY 0 - Travel to Merlin, Oregon and meet your Team Leader at Morrison's Lodge at 5:45pm for a one-hour orientation meeting to answer last minute questions. You will receive your waterproof gear bags (one for every two people) to pack. Dinner is on your own.
DAY 1 - On the first day of your Rogue River rafting trip we greet you at 8:15am at Morrison's Lodge. We will then depart for the Rand Boat Launch put-in as a group. We then fit you with the correct sized PFD (personal flotation device) and then give a safety talk to prepare you for the trip. After the safety talk we divide into oar rafts, paddle rafts and inflatable kayaks or "duckies" as we call them.
Anyone who drove their own vehicle to Merlin can park their cars at Morrison's Lodge in a secure area to stay during the Rogue River rafting trip. We like to launch at Rand Boat Launch because it is away from the clusters of people that can be at the Galice Resort during the height of the summer.
As we put into the river, the water's gentle currents are deceptive, not hinting at the exciting rapids ahead! Before noon we will enter the Congressionally-designated Wild & Scenic section of the Wild Rogue River as we navigate the famous "Grave Creek" rapid. We will stop for lunch near the roaring Class V rapid "Rainie Falls". The rapid is a treacherous one, and guests will walk around the rapid on the river bank. Our afternoon continues as we bounce and weave through several fun Class II and Class III rapids. At around 4:30 or 5:00pm our first day on the river wraps up as we arrive at the Black Bar Lodge. Once we arrive at the Lodge everyone checks into their rooms and gets settled in. Then you might want to take a walk to explore the property and surrounding forest. Or sit and visit with friends, new and old. Meanwhile our guides prepare an assortment of evening hors d' oeuvres designed to complement the extraordinary Ninkasi beers we have with us. We meet around 6:00pm to enjoy the evenings tasting. Then around 7:00 we sit down in the in the lodge's comfortable dining room for a family-style dinner. The remainder of the evening is yours to enjoy...indulge in a game of cards, play the lodge guitar, stroll under the brilliant stars outside, or simply enjoy great company in a wonderful new setting. The Lodge's generator shuts down at 10:00pm, so please make sure to pack a flashlight as the property can become very dark during the night
DAY 2 – We'll fuel up for our second day of Rogue River fun with breakfast in the lodge dining room at 7:30am (coffee and tea are available at 7:00 am). After packing for the day, we'll carry our gear back to the river where our rafts await us. We'll launch around 9:00am as we begin another day of exploration and adrenaline. Today we'll cover a series of exhilarating Class II and Class III rapids. Lunch will be enjoyed on the river's edge...usually at a historic site or at a location that lends itself to a brief walk through the beautiful area surrounding the river. In the afternoon we'll stop at the Rogue River Ranch where we'll be transported back to the fascinating time of the pioneers.
A bit farther down the river we'll find the Marial Lodge, where we'll stop for the evening. Just as they did the night before, our ROW staff will prepare hors d' oeuvres that pair perfectly with tonight's Ninkasi beer selections. There will be discussion on beer making techniques, the history of beer and Oregon's innovative craft beer movers and shakers. Another family-style dinner will be served at 6:30. A highlight of the day will be a guide-led hike on a beautiful trail near the lodge that leads to a magnificent waterfall. Head back to your room for stunning river views from your deck before getting some much-deserved rest in preparation for our final day on the river.
DAY 3 – You'll find that the gentle songs of the local birds provide a soothing alternative to an alarm clock as you open your eyes on day three. We'll enjoy breakfast at 8:00am before once again packing up and heading to the river where we'll again launch at approximately 9:00am. Your final day on the Rogue is packed with the most thrilling rapids of our expedition. As we navigate three Class IV rapids, Mule Creek Canyon, Blossom Bar, and Devils Staircase, you'll get the best the Rogue has to offer. The remainder of the trip after these three rapids is gentle in comparison, with mostly Class II and Class III rapids. We'll stop for lunch at a sandy bank along the river's edge before we continue to the take-out at Foster Bar. Usually we arrive at Foster Bar at approximately 3:00pm. After loading our gear into the vans, we'll make the two hour drive back to the Morrison's Lodge, where we try to have guests back to their vehicles by 5:00 or 5:30pm.
