Details

On this superb adventure combination trip in Idaho and Montana you have three distinct days of adventure. While the exact order may vary depending on the date of your departure, each day will be one of your favorite adventure memories. The rafting trip takes place on Montana's Clark Fork River. Named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, you paddle through the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork aboard a 14' paddle raft where everyone participates. Or, if you prefer, paddle your own inflatable kayak! The river has fun class II-III rapids and flows through a spectacular and roadless canyon.

Your day of biking is on the legendary Hiawatha Trail. This is perhaps the most dramatic "rails-to-trails" ride in the entire USA. Our 15-mile ride takes you through no fewere than seven tunnels (the longst is 1.7 miles) and over numerous trestles that span forested canyons. Pedaling through the heart of the Bitterroot Mountains, few bike tours are better than this!

Whether you're a novice fly fisher or an expert who just wants to benefit from the knowledge of our professional fishing guides, your day fishing the St. Joe will be a day spent in fishing paradise. The river is gin-clear and has a absolutely beautiful emerald hue to it. Big cutthroats wait in deep pools.

Ending each day back at your comfortable hotel in Wallace makes this a perfect trip, with a nice balance of time with your guide and time to explore on your own.

Itinerary

Day One - We meet you to enjoy a full day biking one of the most amazing bike trails in North America – the Trail of the Hiawatha. On this ride you peddle through 10 tunnels including the 1.7 mile long Taft Tunnel, and ride across seven high trestle bridges with dramatic mountain views. Enjoy a bountiful trailside lunch and stories from our terrific guides. After the ride we return to the historic town of Wallace, Idaho. Lunch provided. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the Wallace Inn. Wallace is a fun, western mining town and you'll find plenty of local color and interesting bars and eateries.

Day Two – Drive over Lookout Pass into Montana for an amazing day of rafting on the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River. The day starts on calm waters where you learn to work as a team aboard your paddle raft, or practice skills in your own inflatable kayak. Soon you’re paddling through bouncy, splashy intermediate class II-III whitewater rapids. We stop of a riverside smorgasbord lunch followed by an afternoon a big waves and spectacular canyon scenery. At the end of the day return to Wallace for another night at the Wallace Inn. Dinner on your own in town.

Day Three – Head to one of the most pristine blue-ribbon cutthroat trout fishing streams in the West – the St. Joe River. After a one hour drive we get out the rods and start casting in the emerald green waters of the St. Joe. Your talented guide will help you improve your cast, or teach you how if you’re a novice. Enjoy a bountiful riverside lunch. Late afternoon head back over Moon Pass to Wallace. Spend another night in Wallace (not included) or drive on to continue your vacation and start home.
