These trip extensions are available prior to any of ROW’s Ecuador/Galapagos adventures: yacht cruise, sea kayaking, walking tours and Rio Upano rafting trips. We also arrange them by request. Two and three day hacienda extensions give you a good sense of rural life in Andean Ecuador. This is a land of brightly clothed people, small villages, churches and spectacular scenery. ROW's custom itinerary includes a visit to one of South America’s most famous market towns - Otavalo.

Note that these hacienda packages are offered with both a guided and unguided option.
This two or three-day extension gives you a good sense of rural life in Andean Ecuador. This is a land of brightly clothed people, small villages, churches and spectacular scenery. Our itinerary includes a visit to one of South America’s most famous market towns - Otavalo. While the main market is on Saturday and Wednesday when animals are also sold, it is an active market every day of the week. Artisans sell weavings, hats, rugs, leather goods, wooden carvings and much more. We also visit artisans at work to see them ply their craft and learn more about their life.

HACIENDA ZULETA, OTAVALO MARKET AND THE HIGHLANDS
This 3 day extension takes you to what is truly one of the most incredible haciendas in all of Ecuador and a lovely respite from the hectic world. At Hacienda Zuleta you are a guest of the family and welcomed as such. All guests receive a private room with hand-embroidered linens and beautiful garden views. You will be invited to relax at your leisure in the cozy reading and living rooms, which have entertained their own entourage of famous visitors including past presidents and dignitaries. A very limited number of guests are allowed to visit each year. After two nights at this special place, you go to the market town of Otavalo and then return to Quito.
