Job Description:

Each year ROW seeks to hire two hard-working, fun-loving and motivated individuals as swampers on either our Snake River in Hells Canyon or Middle Fork of the Salmon multi-day river trips. Swampers join a highly experienced staff of fun-loving, thoughtful and talented outdoor professionals with a tremendous passion for the natural world. Swampers assist these guides in the daily set-up and take-down of ROW's luxury river camp as well as with other logistical camp duties. Swamping is hard, physically demanding work. Yet it is immensely rewarding. Swampers spend their summer traveling on the cargo raft down beautiful whitewater-filled river canyons, interacting with people from all over the world and sharing the wonder of nature with others. This is a great way to learn more about what professional outdoor leadership entails and many former swampers have gone on to a long and fruitful guiding career at ROW Adventures. Interested? Swamper Duties:

  • Ride on the cargo raft and assists cargo boatman in daily set-up and take down of on river camp and other camp logistics
  • Work positively with other team members to implement other logistical aspects of ROW trips, including pack-up and clean-up in order to provide guests with a safe, meaningful and memorable experience
  • Engage and respond to guests in a positive, friendly and supportive manner, including meeting their expressed and unexpressed needs
  • Take care of ROW equipment and facilities
  • Professionally represent ROW and its Mission, Vision and Values
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in ROW's Guide Manual
  • Act as a good steward of the natural world and follow Leave No Trace practices

Swamper Qualifications:

  • Legally allowed to work in the United States
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Physically fit, able to work long hours in the field and lift and carry heavy objects over awkward terrain
  • A positive, supportive team player
  • Willing and eager to interact positively with a range of age groups, from small children to seniors
  • First Aid and CPR training preferred
  • Ability to follow ROW's drug-free and tobacco free workplace policy
